DESCRIPTION:
The Army of the Southern states was formed in 1861. The largest contingent was formed by men from Virginia, most of whom were volunteers and not professional soldiers. A lot of equipment was not standardized and the uniforms were quite diverse. The Confederate army was led by Robert E. Lee, a great general both on the battlefield and as a strategist.
