DESCRIPTION:
Cap Horn was a French sailing ship from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The total length of the ship was 148.2 meters with a draft of 8.3 meters and a width of 16.4 meters. The unit was able to transport goods with a total weight of 1,150 tons, and its crew consisted of 48 people. Cap Horn was included in the so-called windjammer, or "windbreakers" - the largest sailing vessels ever built, which used all the most modern technologies of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Steel was used on a large scale for the construction of such vessels - both for the construction of structural elements and for the plating, and a much smaller crew was required to operate the rigging than on sailing ships from the mid-nineteenth century. The windjammers were also able to reach speeds of 18-20 knots. Some people refer to these impressive ships as "the swan song of the Age of Sailing Ship". The Cap Horn, like other ships of its class, was designed to trade with the countries of South America and sailed regularly in the Atlantic and Pacific.
