MISSION

THE DISCOUNT HOBBY WAREHOUSE FLIGHT DEMONSTRATION TEAM WAS FORMED TO PROMOTE THE SPORT OF MODEL AVIATION AS A FAMILY-ORIENTED, EDUCATIONAL, AND FUN ACTIVITY FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

BACKGROUND

Each year, thousands of Americans are introduced to the sport of Model Aviation through the hundreds of Model Air shows and model aviation demonstrations around the country. San Diego is home to such famous venues as the World Masters Slope Soaring Contest at Torry Pines (considered the finest glider port in the western hemisphere) as well as some of the finest world-recognized radio-control champions. With IMAC (International Miniature Aerobatics Club) and the highly noted combat demonstrations being held in San Diego, this team will put a positive perspective in the eyes of the spectators.

The Discount Hobby Warehouse Flight Demonstration Team was formed in August 1999 to perform at the MCAS Miramar Air Show in San Diego, California. Because the Miramar Air Show is considered one of the most prestigious aviation events in the country, it was a tremendous honor to be able to perform for thousands of Air Show spectators. Our demonstration consisted of many facets of the model aviation world, including: Trainers, aerobatic helicopters, scale war-birds, ducted-fan & turbine-powered jets and giant-scale aerobatics. Our pilot roster boasted such names as Dixon Lopez of R/C Direct, Doug Chronkite of Team JR, Paul Bageman of Bob Violett Models, Capt. Buck Garza of Crow Aviation and Shaun Evans of Yellow Aircraft. In the end, we produced an exciting and memorable show, which many people enjoyed.

Our purpose is to give spectators of these various events an exciting and safe demonstration of the thrilling world of radio control aviation. This fun and memorable display will expose many people (young and old) to a very fun and enriching facet of aviation, thereby enhancing the public's knowledge of the model aviation hobby.

While the Demonstration Team will include top radio control pilots from various recognized clubs and organizations throughout California, the model Demonstrations will be organized and coordinated by a small committee headed up by Mike Sieniarecki (store manager) and Shaun Evans (asst. store manager) of Discount Hobby Warehouse. These two have many years in the hobby and have proven their success with the Team.

FLIGHT DEMONSTRATION HIGHLIGHTS

ALL DEMONSTRATION FLIGHTS WILL BE PERFORMED BY EXPERT PILOTS WHO ARE INSURED AND CERTIFIED BY THE ACADEMY OF MODEL AERONAUTICS (AMA). ALL FLIGHT OPERATIONS WILL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL CURRENT SAFETY REGULATIONS. DEMONSTRATIONS WILL INCLUDE:

• Gas-Turbine Powered Jet Models

• Scale and Race Gliders

FLIGHT TEAM PARTICIPANTS

Discount Hobby Warehouse has carefully selected top-notch pilots to perform at the events. Each Demonstration will be unique and require specific pilots for each event. Team Pilots will be selected to fly for each event due to their particular skill and talents.

• All Demonstration Team Pilots are committee-selected and fly by invitation only
• All Demonstration Team pilots are conscientious, expert pilots with a high standard of safety and excellence.
• All Demonstration Team Pilots are current members-in-good-standing in a recognized, AMA chartered model club.
• Each Demonstration Team Pilot will possess a current AMA proof-of-insurance card and Flight Team Membership card at all times.
• Each Demonstration Team Pilot will submit to a pre-flight Airworthiness and Safety inspection of his aircraft and equipment.
• Each Demonstration Team Pilot will have on file a resume containing documentation of the above information and his or her pertinent personal information.

FDT @ PALOMAR FLYERS HELICOPTER FUN FLY

Support for club events is a very important commitment from Discount Hobby Warehouse. On February 24 & 25th. the Palomar Flyers club held their annual Helicopter Fun Fly. Discount Hobby Warehouse was there as a sponsor and brought the Flight Demonstration Team to the event.
